The Yellow Eye 1987

The Yellow Eye opens with a series of hypnotic phrases designed to take the audience on a journey of images.

Your eyes turn to stone, they crumble and the sand runs down your shceeks...You have eyes all over your body, they all blink at the same time. Now, each eye has a voice, and they begin to sing....

This beginning sets a context for the rest of the performance which is a series of tasks and activities performed in silence, sometimes employing optical illusion or surprise. The Yellow Eye is based on the fact that the act of seeing is learned through accumulated experience. We see what experience has lead us to expect, not necessarily what is truly there. It is about the nature of perception.
